19 nominations rejected

Srinagar, Sept 13: The Election Commission of India (ECI) today rejected nominations of 19 candidates while accepting the papers of 122 including those of Aijaz Guru, brother of Parliament attack executed Afzal Guru in North Kashmir.

After rejection of nine nominations in Baramulla district, 107 candidates are left in fray, six nominations were rejected in Kupwara and 84 candidates are now left in fray and after rejection of four nominations, 46 candidates are contesting in Bandipora district now.
In Sopore Assembly constituency, a total of 22 candidates are in fray including 14 Indepen dents. The contesting candidates include National Conference’s Irshad Rasool Kar, Abdul Rashid Dar of Indian Nation Congress, Irfan Ali Lone of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Apni Party’s Ghulam Mohammed War and Mohammad Lateef Dand, an Independent and others.
In Baramulla, 25 candidates are in fray, who include 15 Independents and 10 of those, who are associated with different political parties. The main contenders are Javaid Hassan Beigh of National Conference, Mohammad Rafique Rather of People’s Democratic Party, Mir Iqbal Ahmed of Congress and Asif Akbar Lone of Peoples Conference.
In Pattan Assembly constituency, a total of 14 candidates have filed their nomination papers while 10 among them are associated with different parties and four others are Independents. The main contenders are Peoples Conference’s Imran Raza Ansari, Javaid Riyaz Bedar of National Conference and Reyaz Ahmed Sheikh of Apni Party.
In Rafiabad constituency, 12 candidates are in the fray, with eight associated with different parties and four Independents. The main contenders are Javid Ahmed Dar of National Conference, Yawer Mir of Apni Party and Abdul Gani Vakil of Peoples Conference.
In Wagoora-Kreeri Assembly constituency, a total number of candidates in fray are 13, with nine party affiliates and four Independents. The main contenders are Irfan Hafiz Lone of Indian National Congress, Peoples Democratic Party’s Syed Basharat Bukhari and Naseer Ahmed Rather, an Independent candidate backed by AIP.
In Gulmarg constituency, 14 candidates are in fray, while eight belong to parties besides six Independents.
In Uri, a total number of seven candidates are in fray, with four Independents and three from different parties. Sajjad Shafi of National Conference, Dr Bashir Ahmed Chalkoo of Peoples Conference, Sheikh Muneeb of People’s Democratic Party, besides Taj Mohi-ud-Din are the main contenders.
For the six constituencies in Kupwara district, a total of 10 candidates are in fray from 1-Karnah after 2 nominations were rejected today; 13 from 2-Trehgam where no one was rejected; 9 from 3-Kupwara and not a single nomination was rejected; 13 from 4-Lolab where no nomination was rejected; 8 from 5-Handwara where three nominations were rejected; while 21 are in fray in 6-Langate where one nomination was rejected.
In Bandipora district, 20 candidates are in fray from 14-Sonawari after two nominations were rejected; 21 from 15-Bandipora where two nominations have been rejected; while 5 candidates are in fray from 16-Gurez (ST) where no nomination was rejected.
The notification for the 3rd Phase was issued on 5th September and the last date for filing the nominations was today.
The polling day for these Assembly constituencies in 3rd Phase is scheduled for October 1 and the voting will be conducted from 07:00 AM to 06:00 PM.
