SRINAGAR, Sept 21: The 9th JK-UT Pencak Silat Championship 2024 was inaugurated at the Polo Ground, here today. Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council was the chief guest. During the ceremony, Gul, along with Pencak Silat athletes, took the SVEEP pledge, encouraging voters to participate actively in the elections, and highlighting the critical role of voting in upholding democratic values.
The event was also attended by Mohd Iqbal, Manager of Gindun Stadium, and Hilal Ahmad, Manager of Polo Ground Srinagar, who served as guests of honour. In her address, Nuzhat Gul emphasized the importance of sports in empowering the youth and fostering unity within the region. She congratulated the participants and wished them success throughout the championship.
The three-day event, organized by the Pencak Silat Association of J&K and sponsored by the J&K Sports Council, will feature athletes from across Jammu and Kashmir competing in various events showcasing the skillful martial art of Pencak Silat. The Championship will conclude on September 23 with a grand closing ceremony.
