JAMMU, Aug 29: Expre-ssing serious concern over damages caused by heavy rains and flash floods in Jammu region, Thakur K P Singh, Chairman, Kissan Cell of Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan Party (DSSP) has urged upon the Government to initiate relief and rehabilitation work in favour of rain/flood affected people on war footing.
After taking stock of the situation through personal contacts from far off places, Singh stated that the extent of damages to the crops, land, residential houses, live-stock, business establishments and infrastructure is massive, which is already in the know-how of the Government through media, necessitates fast remedial measures.
“There is no need to go into a lengthy exercise of assessment as has been the practice. Instead revenue authorities along with Disaster Management Teams should immediately visit the affected areas, assess the losses on the spot and pay monetary compensation so that necessary repairs and rehabilitation actions can be undertaken by the effected people themselves,” he asserted.
He also stated that under the prevailing pandemic conditions it will not be possible for the affected people to run around to various offices for putting across their cases. “Those whose houses are damaged must be issued tents besides money for repairs and whose houses have collapsed must be given alternate shelters. Also those whose lands have been eroded must be paid compensation and sanctioned crates to prevent further erosion while those whose standing crops have been damaged must be given PDS rations,” he added.
Singh appealed the administration to reach to the public during the pandemic and earn respectability instead of expecting public to reach you, which they cannot because of Corona. “Delivering administration at the door steps, which is easily doable with the resources the Government has, is the public expectation,” he said.
