Open waste burning in Jammu

One thing quite amazing and surprising towards which we almost all, are contributing in one or the other way is that we never organise protests and agitations that are aimed at demanding protecting our healthcare – be it a fight against massive adulteration of eatables, and milk products , medicines , pulses, spices etc or vegetables and fruits chemically treated to ripen and or the most important, for protecting our basic right to breathe air of normal quality. Protests are watched being held for selective political , economic or other issues only.
What we haplessly watch in Jammu is the generated municipal waste being burnt at many places with impunity. This city, once known for fresh and invigorating quality of air, is fast losing that fair tag. Such a ”quick disposal ” of the waste not only proved hazardous for human lives but was violating the guidelines and directions of the National Green Tribunal . The malice has several causes and the main one is the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) having failed to evolve a scientific treatment to dispose of such garbage and municipal waste generated daily in the city.
On the one hand, while most of the northern states are plagued with the effects of stubble burning on the quality of air, we in this part of the country are confronted with this type of polluting the environment. There are instructions, guidelines, orders issued , etc appearing to be a paper work exercise only but how to do things practically, no one seems to be bothered. It is high time , a scientific disposal mechanism is placed at work to treat the generated municipal waste in Jammu at an early date.
