JAMMU, Mar 20: First Archery Championship will be held at MA Stadium, here from March 21 to 30, announced by Jugal Kishore Sharma, Member of Parliament (MP) Lok Sabha Jammu-Poonch and president Archery Association J&K.
It was disclosed by the president while addressing the media persons, here in presence of Pramod Chandurkar honorary general secretary (AAI), Sunil Sharma chairman Advisory Committee (AAI), Vikas Gupta joint secretary (AAJK), Sahil Sharma executive member AAJK and Ashutosh Sharma president Olympics Association J&K.
“It is first time in the history that Archery championship is going to be held in Jammu in which national and international players will participate,” said Jugal Kishore, adding that the National president of Archery Association of India (AAI) Arjun Munda is dedicatedly working to uplift the sport.
“Archery Associated of J&K came into enforcement in 1989 for promoting Archery in Jammu and Kashmir but was ignored by the previous Governments,” he asserted.
Jugal said that under the stewardship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi promotion in games and sports has been keenly promoted and morale of the players has been boosted. “This historical Archery championship is going to be held in three rounds Recurve, Compound and Indian Round and more than 1000 players are going to take part in this championship along with staff and trainers.”
In recurve category, Deepika Kumari-Padma Shri, Arjuna Awardee and Olympian, Antanu Das Arjuna Awardee and Olympian, Tarundeep Rai Padamshree, Arjuna Awardee and Olympian, Jayant Taluk Dar Arjuna Awardee and Parveen Jadhav Olympian and in compound category, Abhishek Verma Arjuna Awardee, Aman Saini Asian Games medallist, Rajat Chauhan Arjuna Awardee and Rakesh Kumar Para-Olympian will also be taking part in this championship, he informed.
