JAMMU, Aug 12: A bovine smuggling bid was foiled by Police in Akhnoor area here today.
A police spokesperson said that a party of Akhnoor Police Station led by SHO Akhnoor, Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq, under the supervision of SDPO Akhnoor, Mohan Lal Sharma, intercepted a load carrier for checking. But the driver of the vehicle tried to escape on seeing the police, he said, adding that the vehicle was however chased and the driver overpowered.
On search of the vehicle, he said, police recovered several bovines crammed into the load carrier mercilessly.
The animals were accordingly released and the driver of the vehicle arrested with his vehicle seized, said the police spokesperson. A case FIR number 230/2023 under section 188 IPC, 11PCA Act was registered against the accused driver and further investigation taken up, he said.
