Committees formed for successful conduct of mega event

JAMMU, July 10: Union Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan will confer PhD degrees and Gold Medals during the 19th Convocation of Jammu University, which is going to be held on August 3.

Official sources told the Excelsior that Dharmendra Pradhan has agreed to be chief guest during the Convocation for which preparations are being held at war footing by the university administration.
Lt Governor of J&K Union Territory, Manoj Sinha, who is also Chancellor of the JU, will preside over the Convocation function, which will be held at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium of the university.
During the Convocation, sources said that PhD Degrees and Gold Medals for the year 2021, 2022 and 2023 will be awarded to the successful candidates, who are being intimated by the university for their participation.
While elaborating, sources said that 560 Ph D Degrees from 2021 to December 2023 and 216 Medals to the UG and PG passed out students will be awarded during the Convocation ceremony.
According to a notification issued by the university, the candidates interested to attend the Convocation have been asked to apply online till July 19, 2024 along with a fee of Rs 850.
The candidates, who have already received their PhD degree and are interested to get the same in the Convocation, have been advised to submit the degree back to the Head of the Department concerned by July 14 along with receipt of filled up online application form for onward transmission to the Controller of Examination by July 16.
Meanwhile, for successful conduct of the mega event, JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai has constituted total 31 committees assigning them different tasks related to the Convocation.
These include the Core Committee, Discipline and Sitting Arrangement Committee, Committee for Security Arrangements, Beautification Upkeep Committee of Campus, Dias Preparation Committee, Committee for Printing Material and Printing, Committee for Transport, Making Arrangement for Reception and Accommodation, Committee for Hospitality and Reception, Committee for Rehearsal, Committee for Dias Management and Distribution of Degrees and Gold Medals, Purchase Committee, Medal Procurement Committee, Essential Services Committee, First Aid and Medical Assistance Committee, Committee for Photography, Committee for Distribution of Invitations, Committee for Procurement of Gowns, Academic Costumes, and Badges, Committee for Finalization of Guest Lists, Committee for Press and Publicity , etc.
It may be recalled that a Special Convocation of the Jammu University was held last year on June 22, 2023, wherein Vice-President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar was the chief guest. During that Convocation, which was held after a gap of eight years, Gold Medals and PhD Degrees for the years 2016-2019 were awarded to the students.
