“The accused leveraged his connections with both current and retired Government employees of J&K to facilitate the issuance of fake licenses. These licenses predominantly benefited army personnel stationed beyond the UT,” SP Jammu South, Ajay Sharma told media persons during a press conference here today.
He said the breakthrough came on the evening of July 24, when a police team headed by Incharge Police Post Gadigarh, SI Rajinder Singh, while acting on a specific information about one Tirath Singh alias Tony of Karanbagh preparing selling, and storing fake licenses, raided an under-construction building at Karanbagh area in the presence of a magistrate and seized 417 fake licenses.
“Tirath Singh, who is at large, was accordingly booked in case FIR number 177/2024 at Police Station Satwari Under Sections 318(4), 339, 336, 340(2), and 61(2) of the BNSS,” said the police officer.
He said the police also recovered purchase receipts having addresses of various districts, including most from outside the UT, and a receipt book from Singh’s gun house.
SP Jammu South, Ajay Sharma, further said that the ongoing investigation has revealed that Singh issued these licenses in collaboration with Government employees, exploiting their positions to circumvent strict national regulations on license issuance.
“Singh, a former Army soldier, who retired prematurely in 2010, has since accumulated substantial wealth, which needs further investigation,” said the police officer.
He said the further investigation in the case is underway to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy and Singh’s financial dealings.
