SRINAGAR, July 30: National Conference president and former Chief Minister, Farooq Abdullah, today accused Pakistan of creating an atmosphere of confrontation with India.
Abdullah told reporters at Nawai Subh headquarters of the party here today that attacks carried out by well-trained militants in Jammu could lead to confrontation between India and Pakistan. He accused the neighbouring country of testing the patience of India.

“We want peace to prevail between the two countries (India and Pakistan) but contrary to it, an atmosphere is being created for a confrontation. We fear that if it continues, there will be a time when India will not tolerate it and people would want the Government to take steps to curb terrorism,” he said.
Abdullah warned that if the attacks continue, India might reach a point where the public demands decisive action against terrorism. “We want peace between both nations, but escalating circumstances are creating fears that war might happen,” he said.
Asked about the reports that Pakistan was sending in highly trained commandos to carry out attacks in J&K, the NC president said the nature of attacks carried out so far indicate that the assailants can be from an elite group of soldiers.

“Trained people are coming in, maybe they are commandos. What can we say? The way they are attacking they seem to be highly trained and it is a grave danger,” he added.
Abdullah acknowledged the increase in militancy and the infiltration of trained individuals. “There is no doubt that militancy is on the rise and that trained individuals are infiltrating our area. We pray that the Almighty saves us from this difficulty,” he said.
The NC leader hoped that Pakistan would reconsider its actions. “Continued aggression will only complicate issues rather than solve them. We hope that Pakistan will move towards peace, and we pray to see peace prevail here,” he said.
When asked about the sectarian clashes in Pakistan, he said that they are a threat to humanity and emphasized the need for peace.
“Sectarian clashes in Pakistan are a significant threat to humanity, and we hope they understand the need for peace so that both countries can prosper. They should stop these actions, as it is a matter of concern for all of us,” he said.
Regarding the protests by the India alliance, he called it a positive development that alliance members are protesting at New Delhi. “We pray they succeed in achieving their goal,” he added.
Asked about the proposed All-Party Meet in Jammu and Kashmir, the NC chief said the meeting is likely to be held in August. “We are finalising the dates. Once done, we will let you know,” he said.
When asked about the BJP’s preparations for the Assembly elections in J&K, he said that this is an independent country, and everyone has the right to contest elections.
