JAMMU, Aug 6: The NSS unit of Government Degree College (GDC) RS Pura in collaboration with NCC units of the College organized a drive in its neighbourhood to clean the nearby canal which passes through village Chohala (Jindlehar).
Around 50 NSS volunteers and NCC cadets participated in the drive with full enthusiasm. The main motive behind the drive was to spread awareness related to cleanliness and rejuvenation of rivers and water bodies which is one of the objectives of the Clean India program.
During the drive, participants actively collected plastic waste that had been discarded near the water body. They also worked to remove algal blooms, twigs, dead leaves and silt from the bottom of the water body.
In the second half of the day, a plantation drive in collaboration with Forest Protection Force Gama Unit J2 Sidhra was carried out at Government City Middle School, RS Pura. Tarvinder Kour, Assistant Director of the Unit was the overall coordinator for the drive during which near about 100 medicinal plants of varied varieties were planted under the overall supervision of Arun Kumar Gupta.
The event was conducted under the guidance of Prof (Dr) Preetpal Kour, Principal of the College. The event was coordinated by Dr Chanchal Angral (NSS PO) and coordinated by Dr Rakesh Choudhary (ANO Boys) as well as Dr Roopali Slathia (ANO Girls).
The staff members who actively participated in the event were Dr Hari Singh, Prof Sanjeev Upadhyay and Dr Sunil Kumar Mangoch.
