DHAKA, Aug 8 : Citing security reasons, Bangladeshi Bank has restricted the cash withdrawal amount to Tk 100,000 per account, media reports said Thursday. The limit is applicable only on Thursday while there is no curb on online transactions.
Ahead of the swearing-in of an interim government led by Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus, the central bank issued a notification for Thursday limiting bank withdrawal to Tk 100,000 per account, reported English daily Dhaka Tribune. The Bangladesh Bank decided to discourage cash withdrawals to prevent these funds from being used for terrorist or illegal activities, a media report said.
The precautionary measures were taken in order to avoid misuse of funds amid reports that since the resignation of Bangladesh’s former PM Sheikh Hasina, cash withdrawals had increased, particularly by Awami League members and politicians.
The central bank of Bangladesh also halted cash flow from headquarters and emphasized on cheque payment for Thursday. (UNI)
