JAMMU, Aug 19: AICRP-Weed Management, Division of Agronomy, SKUAST-Jammu organized Parthenium awareness campaign at Chatha Farm, SKUAST Jammu, here today.
Dr S K Gupta, Director Research, SKUAST Jammu was the chief guest of the event. He emphasized on collective approach of officials, students and farmers to manage the menace of Parthenium weed.
Dr B R Bazaya, Chief Scientist and Principal Investigator, AICRP Weed Management, SKUAST-Jammu, highlighted the harmful effects of Parthenium weed on the health of human beings, animals and crop biodiversity. He also highlighted various harmful effects of parthenium like skin diseases and allergies in both humans and animals. He advised students and farmers to start vigorous campaign to eradicate parthenium completely from the block level.
Dr Manpreet Kour, Senior Scientist and Co-PI, AICRP Weed Management suggested various control measures for the management of parthenium in rainy season.
The parthenium awareness camp was also graced by Dr M C Dwivedi, Professor, Agronomy; Dr S K Mishra, Associate professor; Dr Rakesh Kumar, Assistant Professor; Dr Dinesh Khajuria, Division of Agronomy; AICRP –WM staff Pawandeep Kour, Gurleen Kaur and other officials of SKUAST-Jammu.
Later on all the participants uprooted the Parthenium weed that have invaded in the Chatha, Farm of SKUAST-J and pledged to eradicate this weed and disseminate the useful information provided by the AICRP scientists among other stakeholders in all possible ways to the farming community. University staff/ farmers/ students took part in the programme. Vote of thanks was presented by Dr Manpreet Kour, Senior Scientist and Co-PI AICRP Weed Management.
