JAMMU, Aug 24: Ahead of the auspicious occasion of Shri Krishna Janamashtami, which falls on August 26, an impressive Shobha Yatra was taken out in Jammu City, here today.
A large number of enthusiastic devotees, both young and old, chanting devotional songs and slogans, participated in the religious procession, which passed through various bazaars of the Jammu city.

The Shobha Yatra, organized by the J&K Dharmarth Trust, in collaboration with the Sanatan Dharm Sabha and Dharmik Youvak Mandal, evoked religious atmosphere amid chanting of religious slogans in reverence to Lord Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
The religious procession commencing from the iconic Shri Raghunathji Temple in the heart of the city, was being led by a beautifully adorned chariot carrying the idols of Lord Krishna and Radha. The procession comprised glittering tableaux depicting the important life moments of Lord Krishna.
Ranvijay Singh and Martand Singh, Trustees of J&K Dharmarth Trust; Prabhat Singh, Working President of Shri Sanatan Dharam Sabha; Purnima Sharma, former Deputy Mayor; Trust’s President Brig R S Langeh (Retd), Secretary Ashok Kumar Sharma (SSP Retd), Arun Gupta, President CCI Jammu presided over the Murti Poojan at Shri Raghunath Ji Temple. Thereafter, Rath Poojan and Dhwajarohan ceremonies were performed.
The Shobha Yatra passed through various markets including Veer Marg – Shahidi Chowk – Rajinder Bazar – Kanak Mandi – City Chowk – Old Hospital Road – Purani Mandi – Link Road – Jain Bazar – Chowk Chabutra – Pacca Danga – Moti Bazar – Geeta Bhawan – Ranbireshwar Temple – Shalamar Road – City Chowk, Raghunath Bazar and finally culminated at Shri Raghunath Ji Temple.
A large number of devotees comprising prominent citizens, politicians and heads of social and religious organizations participated in the Shobha Yatra. Besides various Bazar associations, members of Muslim brethren also accorded a rousing reception to the Yatra enroute.
Elaborate arrangements were made for smooth conduct of the religious procession. Senior Police officers also marked their presence to make arrangements robust and incident-free. Besides, J&K SDRF personnel were also deployed.
Participation of Sanatan Dharma Sabha Jammu Kashmir in the Shobha Yatra was also represented by Sangh Chalak Dr Gautam Maingi and Co-Sangh Chalak. President of the Sanatan Dharma Sabha, Purshotam Dadhichi informed that 20 tableaux were included in the procession in which all sections of the society took part. Other office bearers of the Sabha, including General Secretary Sanjay Gupta, Executive President Prabhat Singh, Vice President Arun Gupta and others also took part in the Shobha Yatra.
