SAMBA, Sept 3: The family members and relatives of Bachan Dass, a daily wager of Jal Shakti Department who died today at hospital took the body and kept it in the middle of the road and lodged a strong protest against the Department.
Instead of taking the body to the cremation ground, the family members kept the body in the middle of the road at Samba Sumb Matador Stand Chowk and lodged a strong protest. The family members alleged that he was constantly harassed by the senior officials of the Department and his salary was also not released. He was made to work even when he was ill, due to which his condition worsened.

They alleged that he died during treatment in the hospital. He kept demanding his pending salary but he was not paid. If his salary had been paid on time, he would have been treated in a good hospital and perhaps his life would have been saved. To pacify the protesters, SHO Samba, Sandeep Charak, tehsildar Samba, Shabbir Ahmed, Jal Shakti Department’s Executive Engineer, Hukam Singh and many other officials reached the spot but the family members remained adamant on their demand.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Samba, Jagdish Singh reached the spot and announced a help of one lakh rupees (50 thousand from Red Cross Society and 50 thousand from Jal Shakti Department) and also the victim’s wife will be given a job in a reputed industrial unit. He also said that a team has been constituted for this incident which will submit its report in the next five days and strict action will be taken against the officer found guilty in this. During the protest, many workers including PHE Daily Wager Association head, Rakesh Kumar reached the spot and appealed for justice for the victim.
Finally, the Bachan Das a resident of Araji Samba was cremated at the cremation ground of Samba. The victim has left behind his wife and three daughters.
