JAMMU, Sept 6: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has approved the formation of a sub-committee that will finalise the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the Border Protection Grid.

As per an order, the sub-committee shall be chaired by Additional Director General of Police Headquarters, Jammu and Kashmir with ADGP Jammu Zone, Joint Director, IB, IG BSF, Jammu Frontier, representative from office of Divisional Commissioner Jammu (civil administration) as its members.
The order said that committee’s mandate include reviewing past and current data on border breaches to create a strategy to prevent future incidents.
It will also establish a system for the BSF to issue alerts for any potential or confirmed breaches and clarify the role of the J&K Police in handling these situations.
Additionally, the committee will work on identifying a common platform, such as a control room, to ensure smooth communication between the border and National Highway 44.
It will also define the responsibilities of all stakeholders involved in border protection and set up a process for regular meetings to review progress and update the SOP.
The draft SOP must be completed by September 30, 2024.
The committee’s chairman has the authority to include other officials if needed to assist in finalizing the SOP.
