SRINAGAR, Sept 13: Democratic Progressive Azad Party chairman, Ghulam Nabi Azad today emphasized that leaders who win the hearts of the people can secure wins without money.
Speaking at a campaign rally in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, Azad said that while some spend large amounts of money, they are often rejected by the public.

“There are those who spend crores, but they still cannot win. When people decide to make you win, they do it without money,” he said.

Citing the example of Awami Itihad Party chief Engineer Rashid, Azad highlighted how the politician won without financial backing.
“I believe he has nothing apart from his kurta-pyjama. Sixteen years ago, when he was an MLA, he wore the same clothes in summer and winter, whether inside or outside of jail. Yet, when rallies were held in his name, there were no stages. People gathered on the roads in their own vehicles, bringing their own food, and they made him a Member of Parliament. It is disappointing to see that people cannot understand this power,” he said.
Azad encouraged his young candidates, asking why they too could not achieve electoral success without financial expenditure. “I am doing my duty by supporting those who filed nominations in my absence, and I am here for them. They are fulfilling their duty, and I am grateful to the people who have supported them,” he added.
The former Chief Minister said that when there is genuine love and intent in the hearts of people, they will go to great lengths to make their leaders win. “Those who rely on money and wealth, not only here but across the country, often lose despite their spending,” he said.
Azad addressed three public gatherings, in South Kashmir’s Dooru, Qazigund and Devsar where he strongly asserted his commitment to protect the rights of the people of J&K.
He announced his intention to introduce a law in the Assembly that would ensure the security of jobs and land for the residents of the region.
Azad said that if elected to power we will bring a law where no outsider would be allowed to buy land or secure jobs in J&K thereby preserving the rights and opportunities for the local people. He further said, in Parliament he had fought against the revocation of Article 370 and Statehood.
However, he expressed disappointment with the current Government, stating that nothing can be expected from them regarding these issues. “People are suffering here,” he said, stressing the need for immediate action to address the challenges faced by the local people.
The former CM assured that if his party comes to power, the first priority would be to provide free electricity to the poor and waive off electricity bills for those who cannot afford to pay. He also stressed the need to create jobs in various departments to tackle the growing unemployment crisis.
“My aim is to uplift the weaker sections. It pains me to see their condition. They are still without water, electricity and proper roads. As Chief Minister, I tried my best to bring a revolution in development, but two and a half years were not enough. My Government couldn’t survive long. Now, I need a chance to complete those projects, which were my dream. I want to build roads to every village and alleviate the suffering of the people,” He said.
Azad also voiced concern over the loss of many young lives due to the ongoing conflict and the rising trend of drug abuse, which he linked to the lack of employment opportunities.
