JAMMU, Sept 14: Balgran, a charitable home for children, marked its 50th year of foundation with a celebratory event today.
Established in 1975 as SOS Children Village, with Mekhla Jha, former Governor, Jammu and Kashmir; DD Thakur, former Deputy Chief Minister, Jammu and Kashmir and ex-Governor, Assam; RK Thakar (IAS); Lt Col Hira Nand Dubey, VC (Retd); AH Khan Afridi, retired Deputy Director Tourism; RC Gupta, CA; and RL Vig (Retd DFO) as the founding members, the home has grown significantly with the support of donors and the community.
A cultural program by students of Bal Bharti Public School, Balgran’s own educational institution, highlighted the event.
As per a statement, Professor Meena Sharma, Dean at the University of Jammu, served as the Chief Guest on the occasion.
She praised Balgran’s work in providing education and holistic development to underprivileged children, shaping them into responsible citizens.
The event showcased Balgran’s dedication to empowering youth through education and various developmental initiatives.
Honorary President Vinod Raina welcomed the attendees and shared the milestones achieved over the years, acknowledging the invaluable support of donors and volunteers.
He emphasized the impact of these contributions on the welfare of the children and the expansion of Balgran’s infrastructure and facilities.
The function saw the presence of many prominent members of civil society, Balgran’s fraternity, and alumni including A K Arora (Patron in Chief), Jagmohan Gupta (Patron), Engineer Ponit Nanda (Patron), A K Khajuria (Patron), J K Gupta (Vice President), Mohit Vij (Vice President), Dr Rakesh Khajuria (Joint Secretary), Dr Shashikant Goswami (Treasurer), Life Members Subhash Chander Sharma, Ravinder Gupta, Vinod Gupta, Sunil Sharma, Sansar Chand, Jhalla, Surinder Gupta, OP Dubey, Jitender Sharma, Sunil Gupta (Member), Urmil Arora (Advisor, Bal Bharati Public School), Sadhna Kachroo (Director, Bal Bharati Public School), Dr Sunita Sharma (Principal, Bal Bharti Public School) and Govardhan Singh (Vice Principal, Bal Bharti Public School).

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Honorary Secretary Prof R D Sharma.
