JAMMU, Sept 27: A district level seminar on “Gandhi’s Vision for a Sustainable Future” was organized at Government SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu, focusing on Mahatma Gandhi’s principles and their relevance to modern-day sustainability challenges. The seminar saw 15 students from various colleges in Jammu district present their interpretations of Gandhian philosophies and how they can be applied to create a sustainable future.
The event began with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries, followed by a welcome address from Dr. Deepshikha Sharma. Prof. (Dr.) Rajinder Singh, Principal of Govt. SPMR College of Commerce, was the chief guest, while Prof. (Dr.) Rannvijay Singh, Controller of Examinations, Cluster University of Jammu, Dr. Sonia Khajuria, HOD English, GDC Udhampur, and Prof. Shivani Kotwal, HOD English, GDC Kathua, served as the judges.
In the seminar, first prize was bagged by Ridham from Govt. SPMR of Commerce, while second prize went to Aakrita Mahajan from GCW Gandhi Nagar. The third position was shared by Ayushvi from GCOE Jammu and Harsimran from GDC RS Pura.
In his address, Prof. Rajinder Singh emphasized the importance of Gandhi’s teachings on simplicity, self-reliance, and respect for the environment, noting their continued relevance in the context of sustainability. He praised the participants for their insightful discussions, which included topics like sustainable practices, community involvement, and non-violence. Faculty members from various colleges were also present, making the event a collective academic effort.
