These are the excerpts from Jammu University’s Kulgeet/Anthem/Tarana in Dogri Langauge written and composed by Brij Mohan, a very talented and well known dogri poet and music composer. The tarana was recently released in a function at Jammu University by Governor N.N.Vohra.
The Tarana was produced under the overall supervision of world fame Santoor maestro Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma has been rendered voices by legendary singer Seema Anil Sehgal, a pride of soil, Jeevan and Sonali Dogra. The Visual portion of Tarana has been directed by Maloop Singh and Music arranger is Prashant Salil.
It needs to be added that Tarana has been become very popular not only among the students and faculty members of Jammu University but also Ex Students and Jammuties too that speaks a lot about the content and composition. The said Tarana had been approved long back, but it was only because of the initiatives taken by Vice Chancellor Jammu University, Mr. R.D.Sharma that an ambitious project of Jammu University has at last been completed in such a creative way thus fulfilling a long pending demand of all associated with Jammu University and others.
If we talk of Brij Mohan, then it is pertinent to add here that basically a poet, he has inherited music from his father Late. Lachman Dass, an eminent Tabla Player of his times thus signifying that music has been in his genes. He being an approved A-Grade Music Composer & Poet for All India Radio and Doordarshan has the privilege of writing and composing first Identity Montage of DDK Jammu, Tarana for Dogri Sanstha, a pioneer organization for boosting Dogri Language and traditions, and Sacho-Sach-Aakhay, a song for AIR Jammu which is highly appreciated and had been selected by DG, AIR for National Broadcast in 2009.
After retiring as editor Sheeraja (Dogri) from J & K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages, he has been devoting even more time for his ultimate passion i.e. Music.
He has the privilege of having worked with prominent singers of Bollywood like Mohinder Kapoor, Kumar Shanu, Kavita Krishnamurti, Abhijit, Anuradha Podwal, Mohd Aziz, Jaspal Singh, Sadhna Sargam, Jaswant Singh, Richa Sharma, Neelam Sawhney, Seema Anil Sehgal, Ms. Shameema Azad and well known local talents like lovely Chandra, Anita Sharma, Anupama Sharma, Jeevan, Sonali Dogra and others. He has also quite a number of audio cassettes to his credit released by different Music companies that include Dharaan, Dayar, Phuharan, Chinar, Lehraan, Mukhra Pyara-Pyara, Khayalen ch Koi Aaya, Pyaara Pyaara Sama (Dogri) and Kaliveer Ashirwad, Katha Peer Kho Shiv Mandir ki, Maa Ka Darshan Paya ,Saans Chale to Yeh Jeevan Hai (Hindi). It is commendable that he has also composed music for a feature film_ Mukti (Under Production) Produced & Directed by Ved Rahi in Dogri and Hindi Languages.
In addition to it he has also composed title songs for so many tele serials produced for different channels like DD Kashir, DD Srinagar, DD Jammu & DD Jallandhar and has also rendered music to so many Stage Plays performed at National Level. At the same time he has also composed music for different Docu-Dramas and Documentaries and has also arranged many Musical Programs / Concerts for Dogri Sanstha, Jammu, Duggar Manch, Cultural Academy, Hindi Sahitya Mandal, NZCC Patiala etc.
For that last couple of years he has been devoting much time for experimentation in music and result is awesome with musical compositions for Free Verse Poetry, that has happened for the very first time under the title of ” Chamatkaar” series and has enamoured the music lovers. He has been awarded by different organization for his services in music.
It is pertinent to add here that he owes a lot to prolific dogri poet Lt. Krishan Samhailpuri, his Guru for whatever he has achieved in his life as a poet and music composer. At the same time he is also indebted to Ved Rahi, Padma Sachdev, Prof. Lalit Magotra, Chhatrapal, Pt. P.N.Raina, Pt. Ram Parshad, Pt. Jagdish who have inspired and encouraged him in art arena from time to time at different stages of life.
It is his sheer talent that Ved Rahi, an eminent writer and film maker says,
“Although Brij Mohan has carved a niche for himself as a Music Director in Jammu but I strongly feel that If he would have been at Mumbai, he would have excelled as a successful music director as he has immense knowledge of music as well as poetry.”
One point that I wish to stress upon is that in addition to for being a very talented Poet and music composer, Brij Mohan has been a very hard worker too. He believes in perfectionism. Although he knows that music is a very vast field and attaining perfection is not possible since there has always been a scope for improvement.
Let us hope that such honest and very significant approach of Brij Mohan for music will inspire others looking for making a professional/amateur career in Art arena.
