WASHINGTON, Feb 24: US President Donald Trump has said that he will not decide on the future of Jared Kushner, his son-in-law, but he’ll leave the matter to his chief of staff John Kelly.
“I will let General Kelly make that decision. He is going to do what’s right for the country. I have no doubt he’ll make the right decision,” Trump told reporters at a joint news conference with the visiting Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
Responding to a question, Trump praised his chief advisor and son-in-law for doing outstanding job with regard to the peace talks between Israel and Palestine.
At the same time, he rued that the system of security clearance is broken, outdated and painfully time consuming.
“Jared’s done an outstanding job. I think he’s been treated very unfairly. He’s a high-quality person,: Trump said adding that both his son in law and his daughter Ivanka Trump – both of whom are his advisors – do not take any salary, but have a high degree of passion and commitment to serve for the country.
“Jared is truly outstanding. He was very successful when he was in the private sector. He’s working on peace in the Middle East and some other small and very easy deals,” he said. He also said that peace between the Palestinians and Israel is the toughest deal of any deal there is the hardest deal to make of any kind is between the Israelis and the Palestinians.
“We’re actually making great headway. Jerusalem was the right thing to do. We took that off the table. But Jared Kushner’s right in the middle of that, and he’s an extraordinary deal-maker. And if he does that, that will be an incredible accomplishment and a very important thing for our country,” he said.
Trump said he inherited a system that’s broken.
It’s a system where taken months to get security clearance even for people who that do not have the complex financial system.
“It’s a broken system, and it shouldn’t take this long,” he said.
“General Kelly respects Jared a lot and General Kelly will make that call. I won’t make that call. I will let the general, who’s right here, make that call,” he said and quickly added that his son-in-law is doing some very important things for the country. (PTI)
