SRINAGAR: An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Friday afternoon, official sources said.
They said on a specific information about the presence of militants, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation at village Kangon, Pulwama this afternoon.
However, when the security forces were moving towards a particular area in the village, militants opened fire with automatic weapons. Troops also retaliated ensuing an encounter. Additional security forces were rushed to the area to seal nearby areas to prevent any demonstrations, they said adding further details are awaited. (AGENCIES)
