ISLAMABAD, Sept 8: Dr Arif Alvi, one of the founding members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, will take oath as 13th President of Pakistan here on Sunday (tomorrow).
Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief of Army Staff Qamar Javed Bajwa, higher political and military authorities will attend the oath-taking ceremony, a report in Radio Pakistan quoted spokesperson of the Presidency as saying.
The 69-year-old former dentist defeated Pakistan Peoples Party candidate Aitzaz Ahsan and the Pakistan Muslim League-N nominee Maulana Fazl ur Rehman in a three-way contest.
Dr Alvi, a close ally of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, has served as the party’s secretary general from 2006 to 2013 and won the National Assembly elections from NA-247 (Karachi) during the July 25 election.
The tenure of President Mamnoon Hussain expires today (Saturday). (UNI)
