HYDERABAD, Aug 3: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday asked ITC to establish foodprocessing units in coordination with the state government.The government said food processing units shouldcome up in big way in the state so that farmers can getsupport price for their produce and unadulterated and qualityfood products can be supplied to the people, he said.
ITC chairman Sanjiv Puri and other officials of thecompany met the chief minister here, an official press releasesaid.Sanjiv Puri disclosed that the construction ofITCs Rs 800-crore food processing plant at Manoharabad inMedak district was almost complete and the plant will go onstream in two or three months, it said.
The Chief Minister congratulated ITC for completingsuch a major food processing plant in record time, the releasesaid.Observing that his government aims to launch foodprocessing units on a large-scale to enable the farmers orgrowers to get suitable price, Rao said that major playerslike the ITC should come forward in the endeavour.The services of four-and-a-half lakh womenself-help groups in the state should be utilised in procuringraw material and others for the establishment of foodprocessing units all over the state, he added.
