JAMMU, Aug 5: Senior leader of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Jayesh Gupta today expressed serious concern over the slow pace of restoration work of the historic Mubarak Mandi Complex.
He urged the LG Manoj Sinha to fix a timeline for completion of the work and direct executing agencies to accelerate the pace of work.
Addressing a press conference here today, Jayesh said despite its declaration as a State Protected Monument and numerous restoration efforts, the Mubarak Mandi Complex remains largely unrestored.
“The formation of the Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society and the announcement of a detailed master plan in 2019 with clear timelines and work details were promising steps. However, five years have passed with little visible progress,” he said.
Jayesh stressed the need to fix a timeline for completion of the works on the conservation and reuse proposals for the entire complex, as envisaged in the approved Master Plan, so that the people of the UT can avail of its social, cultural, and economic benefits.
“Timely completion of the project can ensure that Mubarak Mandi remains relevant and accessible to future generations. Its conservation is required to be carried out strictly as per national and international norms and guidelines,” he added.
