*IPD, elective surgeries to follow soon

JAMMU, July 27: AIIMS Jammu, the first AIIMS facility in Jammu and Kashmir, is going to start in-house OPD services along with various diagnostic services from next week while IPD, elective surgeries and other services will be started in a phased manner.

This was disclosed by Prof (Dr) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director & CEO of AIIMS Jammu, while outlining the Institution’s vision and upcoming services at a press meet organized today at AIIMS Convention Centre, Vijaypur in Samba district.
“The appointment scheduling, available radio-diagnostic services, and the 24×7 diagnostic lab along with initially only OPD services will be available from next week,” Dr Gupta said. He stated that the IPD, elective surgeries, and other services will follow soon.
He said this phased approach is strategically planned to ensure a smooth and gradual rollout of additional services, addressing the evolving healthcare needs of not only of the people of J&K, but also for that of Leh, and other neighbouring states like Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
The CEO said AIIMS Jammu embodies the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, serving as a beacon of healthcare excellence, advancing research, elevating medical education, and championing a patient-centric, evidence-based healthcare model under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY).
During a comprehensive presentation, he emphasized the Institution’s achievements and plans and introduced exclusive features of the institution, which are set to redefine healthcare delivery in the region.
“AIIMS Jammu features 750 beds, including 193 ICU beds, 20 ultra-modern operating theaters, and 50 departments with nearly 20 super-specialties,” he said, adding, the Institute also incorporates advanced diagnostic equipment like a 3-Tesla MRI, 128-slice CT, and digital X-ray services, along with a 24×7 diagnostic lab.
Prof Gupa said, “The institute is dedicated to a patient-centric, evidence-based healthcare model, emphasizing appointment scheduling, radio-diagnostic services, and an innovative ‘Indoor Navigation System’ to assist patients. The eco-friendly campus includes amenities such as a Sports Complex, banks, shopping complex, crèche facility, guest house, and residential complexes, enhancing staff satisfaction and productivity.”
He informed that AIIMS Jammu has an annual intake of 100 MBBS students and 60 BSc Nursing students, with plans to expand Post Graduate seats and introduce Super Specialization courses by January 2025. The institute provides an exceptional educational environment with smart lecture theaters, advanced laboratories, simulation labs, and a 24×7 digital library.
“Interdisciplinary collaboration is a cornerstone of AIIMS Jammu, integrating AYUSH with modern technology and partnering with IIT, IIM, IIIM, and international institutions to foster innovation,” Prof Gupta stated. He added that the Institute is advancing 81 research projects, including 41 extramurally funded, 29 intramurally funded, and 11 student research projects.
The CEO asserted that AIIMS Jammu aims to achieve complete healthcare digitalization within a year and promotes women empowerment through equal opportunities, gender-sensitive policies, and leadership programs. He said the workforce of the Institute comprises 58% local residents and 42% from other regions, with significant representation of women in faculty, senior resident and nursing roles.
