JAMMU, Sept 20: All India Migrant Camp Coordination Committee (AIMCCC) while appealing the displaced Pandits from Kashmir valley to participate in large numbers in second and third Phase of polling to be held on September 25 and October, 1 has appealed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to ensure that postal ballot is not being misused by some contesting candidates.
In a meeting here, today held under the leadership of AIMCCC chief, Desh Rattan said that the elections are soul of democracy and it is like a festival so it is the duty of every citizen to strengthen the democratic system of the country by casting their vote.
Rattan made an appeal to ECI to ensure that the postal ballot is not misused by the contesting candidates as in past it has been seen that some candidates getting hundreds of postal ballots on their or their relatives name signed by one or two gazetted officers there by making mockery of the democratic system. He demanded that a constant check must be maintained and those found guilty of indulging in bogus postal ballot practice be dealt under law and debarred from contesting elections in future.
He said proper scrutiny of the postal ballot be maintained and no hanky panky in this regard be allowed in the greater interests of democracy.
The meeting was also addressed by AIMCCC office bearers Bal Ji, P N Jalali, Jawahar Lal and others.
