Army chief reviews security in J&K

SRINAGAR, Sept 13: Chief of the Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi today reviewed security in Jammu and Kashmir with the top Army and police officials ahead of Assembly polls.

The Army chief who arrived in Srinagar yesterday met the top Army Commanders and outgoing Director General of Jammu and Police RR Swain and his successor Nalin Prabhat.
He also discussed the security and operational preparedness of the formations with Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar, GOC-in-C Northern Command and Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, GOC 15 Corps, GOC of Nagrota based White Night Corps and GOC of Himachal Pradesh based Rising Star Corps.
The Army chief was briefed by the formation commanders on the situation, with a focus on Assembly constituencies along the LoC.
He was briefed by the Commanders on the latest security situation along the LoC in Kashmir. It may be mentioned that Army and other security agencies have recently foiled several infiltration attempts along the LoC in North Kashmir.
The Army chief was also briefed about the functioning of the Counter-Infiltration Grid which over the years has been further strengthened to prevent infiltration of militants into Kashmir.
It may be mentioned here that the Army chief discussed the security situation in J&K with LG Sinha yesterday soon after his arrival to Kashmir for a two day visit.
They discussed the situation along the LoC and International Border and recent successful operations in Jammu region which has seen a spike in militancy and operations along LoC in Kashmir in which several infiltration attempts were foiled by the security forces. They also discussed the situation in Kashmir valley where security agencies continue to keep strict vigil even after militancy was almost completely eliminated.
In the meantime, the ADGPI posted on X that the Army chief interacted with LG Manoj Sinha and discussed the current security landscape in J&K. “The Chief assured the LG that the Army is firmly committed towards maintenance of peace and harmony in J&K.
Dwivedi also carried out a holistic review of the security situation in J&K in view of the upcoming elections. “As part of the discussions, he interacted with the outgoing and incumbent Director General of Police, RR Swain and Nalin Prabhat respectively”.
He also reviewed the operational preparedness of the formations by interacting with the GOCs of Northern Command, Chinar Corps, White Knight and Rising Star Corps.
