JAMMU, Sept 2: BJP senior leader and former Vice Chairperson, J&K SC, ST, BC, Development Corporation, Balbir Ram Rattan, has strongly criticized the Congress for making what he describes as “hollow promises” ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. He urged the people not to be swayed by the Congress’ false assurances, reminding them of the party’s long history of neglecting the region’s most vulnerable communities.
Rattan pointed out that the Congress, which held power at the Centre and in the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir for decades, failed to even express sympathy for the rights of West Pakistan Refugees, the Valmiki Samaj, the Gorkhas, and Scheduled Castes (SCs).
“The same Congress, which now pledges to restore democratic rights, was in power for 70 years and did nothing to address the injustices faced by these communities,” Rattan stated. He specifically referred Congress leader Raman Bhalla’s recent pledge to restore democratic rights if voted to power, accusing the Congress of grossly neglecting the rights and welfare of various communities during their time in office.
Balbir Ram Rattan questioned the Congress’ commitment to social justice, citing its failure to implement key social reforms in Jammu and Kashmir. Why were the provisions for reservations for SCs, Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) neglected? Why there were no forest rights for Tribals during their tenure?” he asked.
In contrast, Rattan highlighted the achievements of the Modi Government, emphasizing its commitment to the welfare of all sections of society without discrimination. He noted the granting of citizenship rights to refugees from West Pakistan as a landmark step in providing equal opportunities to previously marginalized groups.
“The Modi Government has ensured that every section of society, regardless of caste, creed, or religion, is safeguarded and given justice,” Rattan asserted. “The Congress Party’s promises now are hollow and come too late, considering their historical failures.”
Balbir Ram Rattan urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to remember the Congress’ legacy of unfulfilled promises and to place their trust in a Government that has consistently delivered on its commitments.
