JAMMU, Nov 20: The Congress leaders, while terming the decision to repeal three farm laws as a historic victory of the farmers, has asserted that the decision has been taken in view of upcoming Assembly elections in five states.
This was expressed by senior Congress leaders during a meeting organized by District Congress Committee (DCC) Jammu Rural in Raipur- Domana Constituency here today.
In the meeting, former minister and senior Congress leader Mula Ram was the chief guest while DCC Jammu Rural president, Hari Singh Chib presided over the meeting. President Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Youth Congress (JKPYC) Udhay Bhanu Chib was also present.
The senior Congress leaders welcomed the repealing of three farm laws, terming it as victory of Samyukta Kissan Morcha’s 14 months struggle.
Mula Ram, while addressing the meeting, said that it is quite unfortunate that the decision has been taken by the BJP Govt at the Centre after more than 700 farmers lost their lives during over a year’s struggle by them demanding the withdrawal of these farm laws in totality. He said that the decision to repeal these laws has been taken in view of the upcoming Assembly polls in five states.
Taking a dig at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Hari Singh Chib lamented that while announcing the decision to repeal the aforesaid laws, the PM did not speak a word about the martyrdom of farmers during their agitation.
Udhay Chib termed the Centre’s decision to withdraw the three farm laws as a historic victory of farmers who had been agitating for the past more than a year. However, he demanded that now the Centre should fix MSP without any further delay.
PYC chief also lambasted the BJP Government for its alleged failure to address the problems being faced by the people of the country in their day to day life. He said that the whole nation and its people are suffering due to anti-people policies of the BJP Government at the Centre.
Among others present in the meeting were Corporator Rajni Bala, Rajinder Kumar, Ram Paul, Tarun Vaid, Shahbaz Khan, Om Parkash and Ajmer Singh.
