REASI, Sept 12: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), Reasi, hosted the Inter-District Division Level Athletic Meet for All Age Groups (AAG) for girls at the General Zorawar Singh Stadium. The two-day event was inaugurated by Vishesh Paul Mahajan, Deputy Commissioner Reasi.
Athletes from 10 districts across the Jammu Division participated, demonstrating remarkable skills and sportsmanship. Deputy Commissioner Mahajan praised the organization of the event and emphasized the role of inter-district competitions in fostering sportsmanship and cultural exchange. He highlighted the increasing participation of girls in sports, noting their significant contributions and the valuable life lessons learned through athletics.
The meet featured a variety of track and field events. In the Shot Put category, Chanchal (Jammu) secured 1st place in U14, while Pratiba Singh (Jammu) won 1st place in U17, and Shamshad Alther (Kathua) took the top spot in U19. In Javelin, Kirti Sharma (Udhampur) led in U17, and Simran Sharma (Jammu) triumphed in U19. The Long Jump saw Sonia Devi (Samba) winning in U14, Priyanka Sharma (Jammu) in U17, and Nitu Thakur (Kathua) in U19. Kirti Sharma (Jammu) and Sweety Devi (Jammu) claimed 1st place in Triple Jump for U17 and U19 respectively. For the 3000m race, Nasia Begum (Jammu) and Ashu Devi (Kathua) emerged victorious in U17 and U19 categories.
