Drugs abuse major concern in Pir-Panjal areas: Javed Rana

MENDHAR, Mar 26: Expressing grave concern over illicit drug abuse in Pir-Panjal region of district Poonch & Rajouri, Javed Ahmed Rana, President Pir-Panjal Zone of National Conference and former Deputy Chairman of Legislative Council urged Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to issue necessary direction to the local authorities to strictly check the menace in this region.
“I feel very disheartened to find that youth are more susceptible to this menace and there is an apprehension that school children might also be exposed to this psychotropic wave,” he said , while addressing a gathering, here today.
The former Deputy Chairman of Legislative Council lamented that despite the public repeatedly urging to local authorities for a strict action, no necessary measures have been taken so far. “As a result, lot of resentment is arousing among the public towards the authorities which is turning into active volcano,” he added.
The former MLA alleged that some kind of conspiracy was going on to deliberately push youth towards drugs and other anti-social activities.
He urged Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to take notice of this matter on priority basis and frame an enquiry committee in order to direct concerned authorities to execute their duties and responsibilities in a meaningful way. He also demanded that a special task force at sub-division level should be established under the supervision of one ASP to flush out the illicit drug abuse in the area.
Apart from this, Rana also raised the issue of PMAY. He said that people are suffering due to complex procedure of registration.
Alleging that maximum water supply scheme sanctioned in the area were non functional, he demanded restoration of the same without any further delay.
In view of upcoming Ramzan, Mr Rana appealed to the administration that all basic amenities should be made available to the public without any hindrance.
