JAMMU, Sept 25: Ex-Servicemen Association Akhnoor today held its monthly meeting and discussed the problems confronting the retired personnel.
The meeting held under the chairmanship of Lakhbir Singh Sohal, began with a two minutes silence to pay homage to the BSF soldiers martyred in a road accident at Budgam on September 20. The retired soldiers also wished speedy recovery to those injured in the accident.
A press statement said that the meeting discussed various pressing issues of the ex-Servicemen, Veer Naaris and widows.
While addressing the retired soldiers, Chairman of the Association, told the gathering that he had taken up the several issues related to the ex-Servicemen with Deputy GOC in writing and actions thereon are in hand as confirmed telephonically.
Captain Jugal Gupta in his address raised the issues of the custodial assault on the army officer and his fiancé in Odisha.
On this, Chairman of the Association said that a judicial probe into the incident has been ordered by the CM of the State and hoped that action under law would be taken against the accused.
He also appreciated the role of retired Gen VK Singh and Army Chief Gen Dwivedi for taking up the case with Defence Minister.
Ranjeet Singh, a Navy veteran, spoke in length about the rights of the ex-Servicemen and particularly the role of ECHS doctors.
He said, “We should be aware about the best empanelled hospitals so that the ex-Servicemen get better medical treatment.”
The meeting was conducted by Sub Maj (Retired) Mani Ram Bhagat, General Secretary who narrated all the activities/events undertaken during the previous month.
Bodh Raj, Santosh Sharma, Dev Raj, Kaka Ram, Raghbir Singh, Jagdev Singh, Gurmukh Singh, Bharat Bhushan and Puran Chand attended the meeting.
