JAMMU, Sept 27: The Department of Dogri at Government Degree College (GDC) Marh has added yet another feather to its cap by securing the second prize in the Dogri cuisine and kitchenware category during the Inter-College University competition at the National Seminar hosted by Central University Jammu. This contest was themed “Traditional Dogra Cuisine, Dogra Traditional Attire and Kitchenware” and was part of a larger seminar focused on “NEP 2020 for Viksit Bharat: Integrating Bhartiya Knowledge Systems with Education.”
The GDC Marh team competed against 15 participating Colleges and 4 Universities from Jammu, showcasing a vibrant stall that highlighted the rich culture and heritage of the Dogra community. The display included traditional Dogra attire, kitchenware, and various cuisines such as Khamire, Gulrah, Quir, Luna Pura, Malpuha, Merie, Asra, Madra, and the famous Dogra pickles Lasoora and Teau da Achaar. The aim was to revive and celebrate the rich heritage of Dogra culture, which seems to be gradually diminishing in today’s modern era.
Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul, Principal of GDC Marh, expressed immense pride and joy over this significant achievement. He emphasized that this event provided students with a valuable platform to gain exposure and experience in culinary arts at a national level.
The students who participated in this event included Shivali Sharma, Pallavi Devi, Sweety Kaith, Rohit Kumar, Gourav Sharma, Rahul Kumar, Richa Manhas, Sangeeta Devi, Atinder Kumar and Sneha Bhagat, all from the third semester. They were guided and supervised by Dr. Sheetal Devi, Head of the Dogri Department, and Dr. Ashu Jolly, Head of the Education Department.
At the conclusion of the event, certificates of appreciation and participation were distributed to the students, further motivating them to continue their efforts in promoting and preserving Dogra culture.
