JAMMU, Sept 23: The much-anticipated Inter District Division Level Athletics Meet for U-19 Boys, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), District Jammu, commenced today at the University of Jammu. The event, which aims to promote athletic talent across the region, witnessed enthusiastic participation from approximately 200 athletes representing various Government schools from different districts of Jammu.
The competition was held under the patronage of Director General Youth Services and Sports JK UT, Rajinder Singh Tara, and was guided by Joint Director Youth Services and Sports Jammu, Ved Parkash, with the overall supervision of DYSSO Jammu, Sunil Kumar Sharma, and I/C DYSSO Jammu, Harvinder Kour.
The first day of the meet featured a series of intense track and field events, including the 100m, 400m, and 3000m races, as well as Discus Throw, Long Jump, Triple Jump, and Javelin Throw. The young athletes demonstrated outstanding skill and competitive spirit as they vied for top honours in their respective categories.
Tanveer Singh from District Jammu emerged victorious in the 100m race, securing the gold medal. In the 400m race, Wajid Ali, also from District Jammu, claimed the top spot, while Sandeep Singh from District Kathua clinched the gold medal in the 3000m race.
In the throwing events, Saksham Gupta from District Jammu impressed with a gold medal performance in Discus Throw, while Vikramjeet Singh, also from Jammu, won the Javelin Throw competition. In the jumping events, Irfan Ahmed from District Jammu dominated the Long Jump, taking home the gold, and Ajay Dhirwal, again from Jammu, won the Triple Jump event.
Incharge DYSSO Jammu, Harvinder Kour, awarded gold, silver and bronze medals to the top performers, encouraging them to continue pursuing excellence in sports. The event, conducted by experienced technical officials, will continue tomorrow with more exciting competitions.
