Irani to file nomination from Amethi against Rahul on Thursday

AMETHI: Union Minister and BJP candidate Smriti Irani would file her nomination papers on Thursday, party sources said here.
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath would be present along with Ms Irani while she files her papers. Like Rahul Gandhi, the Union textile minister will also hold a roadshow before filing her nominations, claimed BJP leaders here on Wednesday.
Later, both the CM and Ms Irani will address an election rally.

Mr Gandhi filed his nominations on Wednesday amid presence of his family members and holding a roadshow.
Amethi goes to polls in the fifth phase where voting is slated for May 6. In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Mr Irani lost to Rahul by a margin of over one lakh votes.

Meanwhile, Ms Irani, who is campaigning in Amethi, alleged that the Congress president had ignored Amethi from the day he was elected from the seat in 2004.
“Now as he is also contesting from Wayanad in Kerala, there is a strong report that he might shift there after the elections,” she said.
Claiming that Narendra Modi will again come to power as he has turned into an icon of development in the country, the Union minister said , “Even after my defeat in 2014, I had worked hard to seek the love and affection of people in Amethi.”
