JDS’ Kumaraswamy hints at scam during Advani’s Rath Yatra

CHANNAPATANA, Oct 16:

Hinting at a scam ahead of Karnataka bypolls, Janata Dal Secular leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Saturday demanded details of donations collected during former Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani’s Rath Yatra and construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

“From 1990 to 1991, Advani had taken out Rath Yatra for collecting bricks and money (for construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya).

“How much money has been collected for that purpose? Where did they keep the money? How much interest did they earn from this money? Who is accountable for it? Looking at their recent comments, where will it be utilised, one has to understand,” he told reporters here.

Replying to a query, Kumaraswamy said there are far too many loopholes in the donations being collected for the construction of Ram Temple Ayodhya also.

“Has anyone given the accounts of money collected for constructing Ram Temple in Ayodhya which they have collected in the name of Lord Rama? If someone asks for the details, they refuse. This is an example of how Lord Rama’s name is being misused,” he said.

Turning the heat on RSS, Kumaraswamy alleged that all universities have been hijacked by RSS workers. “This government has appointed RSS workers as syndicate members in all universities. These syndicate members are demanding Rs 1 to 2 lakh from people to push their works forward,” he said.

“Therefore,” Kumaraswamy said, “the present RSS is much different from the RSS that existed 40 years back.”

He also targeted RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat for his Vijayadashami speech. “Hasn’t Bhagwat made a statement? What statement did he make at a programme on the occasion of Vijayadashami celebrations? This amounts to dividing the country,” he said.

Kumaraswamy was referring to Bhagwat’s speech, where he had raised concern about population imbalance and had urged for the formation of a population policy for the next five decades applicable to all groups.

The BJP has been promising to address the issue of population imbalance by implementing population control policy which “secular parties” see it as antogonising Muslim community. (UNI)
