JAMMU, Sept 28: The J&K Wushu team delivered an outstanding performance at the 33rd Senior National Wushu Championship held in Dehradun, securing a total of 12 medals including 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 9 Bronze—and finishing 4th in the overall medal tally.
Gold medals were claimed by Surya Bhanu (below 65kg), Partap Singh, and Kamraan (above 90kg). Kunal earned the Silver medal, while Bronze medalists included Abhishek Jamwal, Hritik Charak, Tanshiv Raina, Ayyera Chisti, Pratiksha Slathia, Kartivya Gupta, Rohit Thakyal, Amit, Shubham and Abhishek.
Many members of the J&K team reached the quarterfinals and qualified for the upcoming National Games. A 21-day coaching camp organized by the J&K Sports Council played a pivotal role in preparing the athletes, following a selection trial held in Srinagar.
Secretary of J&K Sports Council Nuzhat Gul and Wushu Association of J&K President Vijay Saraf, congratulated the team. Dronacharya Awardee Kuldeep Handoo accompanied the athletes and highlighted J&K’s potential to achieve further success on the international stage. The Wushu Association has also appealed to the J&K administration for the establishment of a dedicated Wushu academy to prepare athletes for the 2026 Asian Games.
