JAMMU, Sept 27: Justice Tashi Rabstan was sworn in as 37th Chief Justice of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh today at a simple but impressive ceremony held at Convention Centre here. He made and subscribed to the oath of office before the Lieutenant Governor UT of J&K Manoj Sinha.

The warrant of appointment was read out by Shahzad Azeem, Registrar General, High Court of J&K and Ladakh.
Justice Atul Sreedharan, Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Justice Sindhu Sharma, Justice Rajnesh Oswal, Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul, Justice Sanjay Dhar, Justice Puneet Gupta, Justice Javed Iqbal Wani, Justice Mohammad Akram Chowdhary, Justice Rahul Bharti, Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi, Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal and Justice Rajesh Sekhri also attended the ceremony.
The swearing-in-ceremony was also graced by Lt. Governor, UT of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) B.D. Mishra (Retd), CEC Leh, Tashi Gyalson, CEC Kargil, Dr Mohd. Jaffer Akhoon, former Chief Justices and Judges of the High Court and Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to Lt. Governor UT of J&K.
Besides, Advocate General, D C Raina, DSGI Jammu, Vishal Sharma, DSGI Kashmir, Tahir Shamsi, senior designated Advocates, Government Advocates, President HCBA Jammu, Vikram Sharma along with other office bearers and Advocates, Presidents Bar Association, Leh & Kargil, Principal District and Sessions Judge Jammu, Principal Secretary to the Chief Justice, other Registry Officers as well as senior Judicial Officers also attended the ceremony.
The ceremony was also attended by other dignitaries and senior police and civil officers of J&K administration including the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police and Law Secretary.
The oath ceremony was also graced by the presence of spouse, mother, other family members, relatives and special invitees of the Chief Justice.
Born in an agriculturist family of Varsudopa on 10th April 1963 at Village Skurbuchan in Leh district, Justice Tashi Rabstan did his Graduation and LL.B from University of Jammu. He was enrolled as an Advocate on 6th March 1990 by the Bar Council of Jammu and Kashmir and started practicing in the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir & various other High Courts on Arbitrations, Constitution, Service, Election, Civil and Criminal matters.
He remained as Standing Counsel for Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh from 1997 till 2005 and was appointed as Additional Central Government Standing Counsel, Jammu Wing of the High Court, in September, 1998 and continued as such till his elevation.
He was appointed as Additional Judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir on 7th March, 2013 and subsequently, appointed permanent Judge on 16.05.2014. Justice Tashi was appointed as Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, twice.
