JAMMU, Aug 3: The members of the Executive Committee of the Kashmiri Pandit Sabha in a meeting held under the chairmanship of its president, K K Khosa failed to assess the approach of the Union Government towards the KP community on the vital issue of rehabilitation of exiled Pandits. The Union and UT Governments have to work jointly to scuttle any move of vested forces in disturbing the peace and harmony of the Union Territory that has been restored in past few years by the Union Government and ensure that no fissures erupt again in the trust among various communities of the Valley, the Sabha said.
The Sabha demanded that the incidents of setting houses ablaze in the Valley and efforts to infest terrorism in the Jammu region have to be addressed on priority. However, with robust economic and external policies, the Union Government is well equipped to dismantle any such pressure and design by the neighbouring enemy countries. Holding free and fair elections, restoration of Statehood to J & K and dealing with military situations on the borders simultaneously is a tight rope walk situation for the Union Government. The members opined to prepare a joint charter of demands by the representatives of all organizations of KP community for submission to all political parties for favourable consideration to include in their manifestos.
The members expressed happiness over the further empowerment of the Lt Governor by the Union Government and appealed for redressal of pressing issues before the Code of Conduct is imposed. The relief amount being paid be enhanced to at least seven thousand Rupees per person, the issues regarding monthly ration etc be dealt promptly with a human approach, the reimbursement claims of medical expenses be dealt with expeditiously as also issues relating to bifurcation of ration cards etc.
The meeting was attended by Ashwani Koul, vice president, . S. L. Bagati general secretary, G. J. Kampassi secretary, Subhash Dhar, Prof. R. K. Ganjoo, Dr. Usha Tickoo, Asha Kitchloo, V. K Mukhi, Vinod Bhat and Bharat Bushan Gosain.
