“To be Calm is the Highest Achievement of the Self”
A beautiful zen proverb. Finding Inner peace in this modern and frantic world is a significant challenge. Woking 8-10 hours a day, 6 days a week, you need to find balance and keep your sanity intact. Perhaps the technology, people around us, our commitments drive us to an extent where we tend to lose our inner peace and it just drives us crazy. A peaceful mind in this ever evolving world might seem like a friend you rarely have a chance to catch up with.
You might assume you can find peace when you are completely free of troubles and your day to day challenges, fortunately that’s not the case. Being at peace is not as challenging as it seems. Propitiously there are multiple ways to finding peace in your fast moving lives. Before we go on to that, need to ask questions to yourself:
* Do we actually seek peace in our lives?
* Are we ready to go through small changes to attain peace in our daily lives?
* Lastly are we ready to follow these changes consistently and persistently to be at peace throughout our lives?
If the answer is yes, here are few simple and practical ways to practice peace in our daily lives.
Accept what you can’t control
You simply can’t control everything in your life. Sooner you accept, easier it becomes. Worrying about things we can’t control only makes us unhappy, depressed and even nervous. Daily challenges tend to complicate your daily routine, leaving you anxious and drained. On the contrary, acceptance often makes a difference. Research shows that accepting your own thoughts and emotions is an effective strategy. You just need to remind yourself:
* What’s happening right now, won’t last forever.
* This is tough, but I will get through.
* I will focus on what I can control.
As you start accepting, you’ll find yourself more at peace.
Add humour to your life
Laugh, in many ways it’s the best thing you can do to yourself. A happy mind is a relaxed mind. You will find the world a much better place when you see the funny side of Life. It’s proven that laughter is a great antidote. It not only eases out stress but also releases hormones that keep us relaxed, elevate our mood, and make us feel happy.
Practice Forgiveness
Feeling hurt, getting angry is natural response when someone treats you unfairly. But holding on to grudges will only add to your distress and anguish. Feeding these emotions of anger and outrage, resentment, further contribute to your distress and affliction. Forgiveness does more to you than the person you forgive. It releases your mind of anger and annoyance. Anger is a strong and a negative emotion that you carry like a baggage in your head, the moment you forgive you just let yourself free of the unwanted baggage, eliminating a reason for distress.
Spend time in nature
A long walk in the park or a weekend amidst the mountains. There’s something so beautiful about spending time in nature, a cool breeze, running water, fresh air to breathe is so refreshing and rejuvenating. Taking a time off for yourself to be among ever beautiful nature is just another way of being at peace. And adding calm and serenity to your busy lives.
Attitude of Gratitude
Being grateful for all what we have is another way of reminding ourselves that there is so much abundance in our lives. We have so much to be thankful for; each individual is gifted in her/her own way; we must acknowledge and be grateful for. The moment start counting our blessings we will be amazed to know how much we have. An attitude of gratitude certainly brings us closer to our inner peace.
Avoid Arguments
It’s human tendency to argue when we feel we are being criticized. We want to win every argument we are part of without even contemplating consequences. To our surprise more than often the arguments leave us drained, squeeze our mental energy irrespective of winning or losing. Stress during an argument activates the part of the brain that releases higher levels of a hormone called cortisol which induces more stress. Next time, think twice, before indulging into an argument.
Live in the Moment
We are all so busy building our future that we forget to live in the moment. Now, is all we have and we got to cherish it. The present is the best gift we have for us and our loved ones. We got to make most of it, and worry less what is about to happen.
Beautifully quoted by Buddha
“The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, worry about the future, or anticipate troubles, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly.”
