Jammu and Kashmir being on a path of development for which various projects are underway while some are proposed to be started and one of them is the ambitious MetroLite project for twin capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar costing Rs.10599 crore . Both the cities , particularly the city of Jammu and even its outskirts, are reeling under acute and rather unmanageable traffic congestion problem having gradually turned into a virtual mess which the metroLite is hopefully going to address and mitigate to a larger extent.
In this connection, there appears to be the requisite seriousness in respect of its coming up and the work starting as soon as possible and the good news about it is that currently the blue print of the project is getting vetted and is receiving final touches at Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Development . The project consisting of ”elevated light metro rail” is all expected to be completed by 2026 but rolled out by 2023 itself. The project was destined to get approved in February itself this year but an ”unavoidable ”delay of three months should now get compensated , and the same is hoped for as well, by the Union Cabinet according approval to it soon so that it could be started at an early date to confirm to the timeline expected and already announced by the Union Finance Minister in her Budget speech this year.
