KATHUA, Sept 2: A minor boy drowned in a canal here today.
Police have recovered the body of 8-year-old Arpit and sent it to the Government Medical College Kathua for conducting the medico-legal formalities.
As per eyewitnesses, Arpit went missing on Friday evening when his mother was doing laundry along the Kathya Canal.
After she failed to trace her missing son, mother of Arpit raised an alarm and accordingly a police team from Kathua assisted by SDRF reached at the spot to start the rescue operation but until Friday night the missing boy couldn’t be traced, they said.
On Saturday morning, eyewitnesses said, a passerby noticed the body of the missing boy floating in the canal and raised an alarm.
Accordingly, police reached at the spot and took body into possession.
Police have initiated inquest proceedings to further probe the matter.
