KATRA, Sept 29: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) Narayana Superspeciality Hospital has successfully performed a unique dual surgery: a Mitral Valve Replacement combined with a Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy. This groundbreaking procedure was executed by a highly skilled team, showcasing the Hospital’s commitment to advanced and compassionate patient care.
The patient, a 46-year-old woman with a history of Mitral Stenosis, was urgently diagnosed with Acute Calculus Cholecystitis. Despite her critical condition, she faced numerous challenges finding a hospital willing to perform both surgeries simultaneously due to the high risks involved.
“Taking on such a complex case required not only surgical expertise but also precise coordination among various specialties,” said Dr Vinod Bhan, lead cardiac surgeon at SMVD Narayana Hospital. “We are proud to have successfully navigated this intricate dual procedure, ensuring the patient received comprehensive care,” he added.
Joining Dr Bhan were Dr Romil Dutt Sharma, a vital member of the cardiac surgery team, and Dr Manoj Gupta, the Surgical Gastroenterologist responsible for the cholecystectomy. The Anaesthesia team, led by Dr Pankaj Gupta and Dr Veenakshi Rajput, played an essential role in managing the patient’s anesthesia throughout the surgeries.
“Our multidisciplinary approach enabled us to address both the cardiac and gastrointestinal issues simultaneously,” Dr Gupta explained. He said this achievement underscores our dedication to providing the highest standard of care, even in the most challenging circumstances.
Following the successful surgeries, the patient was discharged on the 7th postoperative day, expressing immense gratitude for the life-saving care she received.
This remarkable achievement reflects the Hospital’s ongoing mission to expand surgical options and improve patient outcomes through innovative solutions.
