KATHMANDU, July 12: Heavy rains caused terrible landslips in several sites across Nepal, as 11 people died and two buses were swept into Trishuli river leaving over 60 missing, officials said on Friday.
The disasters devastated multiple regions of the Himalayan nation, resulting in severe loss and trauma, The Kathmandu Post reported.
There were 41 people on the bus from Kathmandu to Gaur and 24 people on the bus from Birgunj to Kathmandu on Friday. Both buses and people have gone missing in the Trishuli River, according to police spokesman Dan Bahadur Karki. Eleven people including seven members of a family died when they were buried in landslips in Kaski district The landslide occurred n ward 19 of Pokhara Metropolitan City at around 10-15 pm on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Kul Bahadur Pariyar, 47; his 43-year-old wife Man Kumari; mother Laxima, 85; daughters Prabha, 20, and 15-year-old Prashna; and son-in-law Asmit Pariyar. Their neighbour Radhika Pariyar also died in attempts to rescue the victims, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Basant Kumar Sharma. Three other children-aged 18, 11 and 9-were killed in Chainpur of Pokhara-32. Local authorities said search and rescue crews were on the scene hunting for additional survivors.
