JAMMU, Aug 3: Shreya Gupta, a talented fencer from Jammu and Kashmir, has made a mark on the national stage by winning a bronze medal at the ASMITA League (Achievement of Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women through Action), part of the Khelo India Women Fencing League. The competition was held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.
Gupta excelled in the Senior Women Sabre category, securing a bronze medal and a cash prize of Rs 30,000. She also earned Rs 10,000 for finishing 5th in the Junior Sabre category. During the senior sabre competition, Gupta defeated Somya from Kerala by15-5 and Shruti Joshi from Maharashtra 15-8 in the pre-medal and medal bouts, respectively. She narrowly lost 15-13 in the semifinals to Gauri Solanki of Maharashtra.
This achievement follows Gupta’s recent performance at the Commonwealth Championship in New Zealand, where she won an individual bronze and a team silver.
