REASI, May 11: An Army soldier was shot dead by his VDC member, father-in-law over some family feud in Kambal Danga area of Reasi district today.

The police sources said that the deceased used to have frequent quarrels with his wife, Geeta Devi, to which the woman’s father had objected and he came to Reasi to mediate the issue between the couple several times.

During one of such meetings, girl’s father-Doulat Ram lost his temper and fired upon his son- in-law Amit Singh, an Army soldier with his rifle on his chest, and left him seriously injured.
He was immediately shifted to District Hospital Reasi for treatment from where he was referred to GMC Jammu but he died on the way near Katra. His dead body was shifted to CHC Katra for postmortem and other legal formalities. The police identified the deceased as Amit Singh (32), son of Kewal Singh, resident of Kambal Danga, Reasi.
Police arrested Doulat Ram and took the weapon into custody. Moreover, it was said that Geeta Devi also received some minor injuries and was shifted to DH Reasi for treatment.
