JAMMU, July 4: Tarnjit Singh Tony, General Secretary of J&K Pradesh Congress Committee and DDC Suchetgarh has raised serious concerns over dilapidated condition of roads in the city and also highlighted the perilous conditions caused by potholes, which have turned into death traps for commuters, especially two-wheelers and bikers.
In a statement issued here today, Tony emphasized the urgent need to address the deteriorating road conditions, holding the Chief Engineer accountable for the negligence.
“The laxity on the part of the Chief Engineer is glaring as the city areas are riddled with huge potholes, endangering the lives of our youth. A glaring example is the Satwari to RS Pura road, which is full of potholes,” said Tony.
“These roads usually become death traps for commuters due to lack of proper maintenance and preparation. The negligence in addressing these issues is unacceptable,” he added.
He appealed to the Commissioner Secretary, Public Works Department (PWD), to direct the Chief Engineer to take immediate action.
“I urge the Commissioner Secretary PWD to direct the Chief Engineer to come out of their offices and address the situation on the ground. The safety of our commuters is at stake, and immediate action is required,” Tony urged.
“It is high time that the authorities take responsibility and ensure that the roads are safe for all commuters. The youth of our city deserve better infrastructure and a safe commuting environment,” he added.
