SRINAGAR, Aug 20: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested a Village Level Worker (VLW) for demanding and accepting Rs 20,000 bribe in Vilgam village of Kupwara district.

The ACB said it received a complaint from a resident of village Kukrossa, where he alleged that a case under PMAY was sanctioned in his favour by Block Development Officer, Vilgam.
The statement said that the complainant received two instalments of monetary assistance of Rs 50,000 and Rs 75000 from the concerned department through a bank account.
“The construction of the house of complainant was incomplete due to non-receipt of final instalment of Rs 50,000 which was due in March this year. The complainant alleged that he visited the BDO office many times, but the payment was refused on one pretext or other by Nazir Ahmad, Village Level Worker of the concerned block, who was demanding Rs 20,000 bribe,” it read.
It added that under these circumstances, the complainant approached ACB for legal action against concerned VLW
“On receipt of information, which prima facie disclosed the commission of offence punishable U/S 7 of the P.C Act 1988 (as amended in 2018), case FIR No. 10/2024 was registered at PS ACB Baramulla and investigation was taken up,” it added.
It read that during investigation, a trap was laid and the accused was caught while demanding and accepting Rs 20,000 bribe from the complainant.
“The bribe amount was recovered from the possession of the accused. The accused was immediately taken into custody following due process of law. Further investigation of the case is going on,” it read.
