JAMMU, Sept 25: The World Pharmacists Day was today celebrated in Jammu by various organizations. In this regard a function was organized by the Jammu Kashmir Government Pharmacists Association, Jammu province.
The function was held under the leadership of Bharat Bhushan Bhagat, president JKGPA, at Govt Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu to pay gratitude to the father of Pharmacy Prof Mahadeva Lal Schroff.
Director Health Services Jammu, Dr R K Magotra was the chief guest on the occasion.
The programme started with National Anthem and lamp lighting by chief guest and the guests of honor, Lotika Khajuria, president State Pharmacy Council, Dr. Abdul Hamid Zargar Medical Superintendent Govt Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu and Surinder Mohan Tikoo Registrar State Pharmacy Council.
While addressing the participants, Sushil Sudan president JKMEF and member Pharmacy Council of India threw light on the life and achievement of Prof. Mahadeva Lal Schroff who played a pivotal role in spreading Pharmacy Education in India and aboard.
He also referred to the major achievements of amendment of Pharmacy Act 1948 by the Parliament which brought smile on the faces of approximately 27000 Pharmacists, who were in the lurch after the abrogation of Article 370 in the J&K UT.
On the ‘World Pharmacists Day’ the retired Pharmacists who devoted their services to the Health Department were also appreciated and presented with certificates and mementoes.
Others who participated and addressed the function included Parfulat Singh, Shafket Hussain, Sourab Bakshi, Jasvinder Singh, Surjeet Rajan, Sanjay Choudhary, RP Singh, Bahadur Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Gagan Singh, Daleep Choudhary, Rakesh Bakshi, Anil Khajuria, Pawan Kumar, Daleep Choudhary and others.
The World Pharmacists Day was also celebrated by Rajiv Gandhi (RG) Institute of Pharmacy, here today.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Heena Jamwal (Director RG Institute of Pharmacy) in presence of Gourav Nanda (Principal) and Dr. Shalumol Jose (HoD).
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Heena Jamwal said, “Prof M L Schroff is recognized as the Father of Pharmacy Education in India.”
She emphasized how pharmacists are pivotal in ensuring access to safe and effective healthcare worldwide and underscored that pharmacists today are not limited to dispensing medications but are involved in global health initiatives, research, patient counselling and chronic disease management.
Gourav Nanda said, “The Pharmacists acts as critical professionals in the delivery of healthcare in the country as they bring in-depth knowledge of medicine composition, formulation and usage. The role of a pharmacist is gradually evolving from a dispenser of medicines to an expert in the field with multidisciplinary health care systems.”
The event was attended by Mansi Chadha, Sourav, Rahul, Abhishek, Dilbag Singh, Rushal Manhas, Sain Dass and Dinesh.
The World Pharmacist day celebrations concluded at Sain Charitable Institute of Paramedical Sciences (SCIPMS) with a series of impactful events.
Akankasha Madhok, Principal of SCIPMS congratulated the students and faculty for organizing the function successfully.
She also expressed her appreciation to the Staff for the celebrations and commended the management for their continued support, especially Chairperson Suman Sharma and Dr. Nitin Mahajan for encouraging such activities.
